NIEPVD initiated Online Learning Platform for Orientation of regular classroom teachers on Inclusion of Students with Disabilities
NIEPVD, Dehradun and SSA Assam jointly have initiated Online Learning Platform (nivh.org.in/assam/) for Orientation of regular classroom teachers of Assam on Inclusion of Students with Disabilities. The platform will allow self-learning on disability issues at your own pace. A joint certificate will be issued to successful participants. As per web portal of NIEPVD, Assam chapter, Mainstream schools have a critical role to play for inclusion of students with disabilities. They need to identify and rectify different physical and socio-psychological barriers which restrict students with disabilities to participate fully in the school system. To remove barriers of inclusion and eventually, implement the provisions of RPWD Act-2016, NIEPVD & SSA Assam, have come together and organise an orientation program on Inclusion of Students with Disabilities for regular classroom teachers through this e-learning platform. It is being observed that in the recent past many policy related developments have taken place in the country related to empowerment of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan). The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 is one such landmark decision. The Act was enacted in December 2016 by the Parliament of India. The Act promotes and protects the rights and dignity of people with disabilities in various aspects of life – educational, social, legal, economic, cultural and political. Section 2(m) of the Act clearly defines Inclusive Education as a system of education wherein students with and without disability learn together and the system of teaching and learning is suitably adapted to meet the learning needs of different types of students with disabilities. Section 31 of the Act makes provision for admission in mainstream setting or special school by choice.
