The World Health Organisation has appointed Dr. Soumya Swaminathan as the Chief Scientist of the newly created public health division, which was formed as a part of WHO’s wide-ranging reforms declared on 6th March 2019. Dr Soumya, daughter of MS Swaminathan, India’s Green Revolution Man, will be working out of Geneva, the head quarter of WHO.

“It will give me a platform to promote research on public health priorities and strengthen health research capacity in countries including on ethics, and accelerate access to digital technologies to improve health,” said Dr.Swaminathan revealing that the newly created position will allow her to strengthen WHO’s core normative work.
