If you think all students are alike, think again. Students differ in terms of their learning needs, interest and ability levels. As teachers, we experience this when we introduce a topic for the first time – there are students who know something about it, students who want to know about it and students who are nervous about expressing themselves. The framework of UDL rests on three main principles – explain through different senses, involve students keeping their interests and strengths in mind and test them in different ways so that they can show their learning. Lessons delivered in UDL encourage exploration, discovery and creativity among all learners and it results in a classroom where diversity is welcomed and valued.
